Barratt Due

When Mary Barratt Due and Henrik Due founded their music institute on September 18 1927, the studios consisted of their three-room apartment on Vallegate, a room in the same house that was originally a dairy store and two rented rooms in the neighbourhood. In 1931, the family and the institute moved to Lyder Sagens gate, and the institute is still located there today. Barratt Due’s employees and students have created a living house that vibrates with music.

Much has changed in 75 years, but the founders’ motto "From nursery school to concert podium" remains firm. Today, the institute is the only one (in Norway) that has a structure including all levels and age groups, and even further breadth by combining age groups. "Quality is more important than age" – could almost be an additional motto for Barratt Due. By letting the undergrowth grow along with the highest trees with a sprinkler system of inspiration, we have the pleasure of experiencing an overwhelming blooming of talent.

We will continue to build on the inheritance: to take the person – the music and the musician seriously!
